Lafayette hammers out recreational marijuana regs

Lafayette City Council on Tuesday passed a revised set of regulations governing recreational marijuana sales as well as marijuana cultivation and manufacturing operations.

Council approved on second reading a set of four ordinances pertaining to medical and recreational marijuana operations which establish setback requirements between marijuana businesses, limit the number of cultivation and manufacturing operations in the city and permit the co-location of medical and recreational marijuana stores. Council also installed a $5,000 licensing fee on all recreational mariiuana businesses.

Following a lengthy discussion last month, buffers between marijuana businesses were set at 1,000 feet and the total number of independent grow or manufacturing facilities was raised to six.

Tuesday’s ordinances passed with votes of 6-1. Councilwoman Staci Lupberger was the lone voice of dissent.
